Dr Christina Benson

Menopause Doctor

BSc (Hons) Physiology (St Andrews), MBChB (Dundee), DFP, MRCGP, FRNZCGP

Bio

Christina is originally from Scotland and has been a General Practitioner for over 20 years — the last nine of them in Cambridge, New Zealand, where she and her family settled in 2017. Somewhere along the way women's health stopped being an interest and became the thing she cares most about. Menopause medicine is where she spends her time now — helping women make sense of the hormonal changes and health challenges that turn up in midlife and beyond. Christina's training started with an Honours degree in Physiology at the University of St Andrews, followed by Medicine at the University of Dundee, graduating MBChB in 1999. She completed the Diploma of Family Planning (DFP) in 2003 and gained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2004. In 2020 she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP). Her clinical interests are perimenopause and postmenopausal health, hormone replacement therapy, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). What matters to her is that the care is evidence-based and that it fits the woman in front of her — that she leaves understanding her symptoms, her options, and what they mean for her long-term health. Christina takes a warm, collaborative approach, and genuinely enjoys the long-term relationships that come with it. Outside of medicine you'll find her doing Pilates, strength and fitness training, or outdoors somewhere. She's seen what movement, fresh air and a bit of balance can do for both body and mind — much the same thing she brings into the consulting room.
