What to Expect?

Our consultations are designed to give you clear answers, practical treatment options, and a personalised menopause plan — with more time, more depth, and more menopause-focused care than a typical GP visit.

What happens when you book

We keep the process simple, clear and personalised from the moment you book.

1

Pre-consult assessment

Before your appointment, you will complete a detailed online questionnaire covering your symptoms, medical history, medications and lifestyle factors.

2

45-minute consultation

You will meet with one of our menopause doctors either in person in Tauranga or virtually anywhere in New Zealand to discuss your symptoms, questions and treatment options.

3

Personalised treatment plan

After your consultation, we will provide your management plan, prescriptions if needed, and a written summary for you and your GP.

What’s included in your consultation

  • Pre-consultation health assessment
  • 45-minute menopause consultation with one of our doctors
  • Personalised menopause management plan
  • Written consultation summary for you and your GP (within 4 weeks of consult)
  • Initial prescriptions if treatment is recommended
  • Blood test or scan requests if required
  • Written interpretation of investigation results
  • Referral letters if specialist care is needed

What happens after your consultation

Many women need follow-up appointments to review how treatment is working and make adjustments if needed.

Follow-up consultations are 20 minutes and are conducted virtually. These appointments may include reviewing symptom improvement, adjusting medications, reviewing results, and answering questions about your treatment plan.

What is not included in the consultation fee

  • Additional prescriptions requested outside a consultation
  • Clinical advice requested after your consultation
  • Pharmacies may also charge an additional fee for dispensing private prescriptions

Who we help

Menodoctor supports women experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause who want clear, menopause-focused care.

We help women at any age

We help women of any age who are in perimenopause or postmenopause* and are experiencing symptoms that are affecting their quality of life.

* Menopause is technically reached on the 365th day after your last period. After this point you are considered postmenopausal, and prior to that day you are considered perimenopausal.

While menopause symptoms most commonly affect women in their 40s and 50s, many women seek help earlier during perimenopause.

Our patients typically range in age from their 30s through to their 80s and beyond, and you do not need to wait until your periods stop completely to seek support.

Common symptoms include

  • Hot flushes or night sweats
  • Poor sleep or fatigue
  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
  • Anxiety, low mood or irritability
  • Reduced libido
  • Vaginal dryness or painful sex
  • Irregular or changing periods
  • Weight changes, joint aches or muscle pain

Previous cancer, including breast cancer

We also support women who have had previous cancer, including breast cancer, and are seeking specialist menopause care tailored to their individual history and treatment needs.

We focus on structured, evidence-based care tailored to the individual woman.

Comprehensive assessment

Evidence-based treatment

Treatment options are based on current menopause guidance and tailored to your medical history and preferences.

Clear communication

You receive a written summary and treatment plan so you understand the next steps after your appointment.

Coordination with your GP

We provide a summary for your regular GP so your ongoing care remains connected and informed.

Common questions before booking

A few practical points women often want to know before they book.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with Menodoctor without a referral.

Can I still see my regular GP?

Yes. We work alongside your regular GP and provide them with a consultation summary and treatment plan.

Do I have to take hormone therapy?

No. Treatment may include hormone therapy, non-hormonal medications, lifestyle changes, or a combination depending on your situation.

Can I book if I live outside Tauranga?

Yes. Around 80% of our consultations are completed virtually, allowing women anywhere in New Zealand to access menopause care.

There is no physical examination required for menopause consultations, which makes virtual appointments a convenient and effective option for most women.
