What is the difference between Bioidentical Compounded Hormones and Bio-identical HRT?

Most people think the term ‘bioidentical’ only applies to compounded custom-made hormones. These are products made in a pharmacy, often by mixing different compounds together. They are not required to go through the same stringent testing and regulation as HRT, so the amount of actual hormone in them can vary from batch to batch. 

Modern prescribed bio-identical HRT is pharmaceutical grade. The quality and safety of each product is regulated so it is the same high-quality product every time. 

Producers of compounded products claim they can customise the hormone doses according to a woman’s salivary hormone levels. These tests have been shown to be neither consistent nor precise. Female hormone levels fluctuate; not only on a daily basis, but even during different times of the day, which makes customising doses impossible. 

Since the quality of custom-made compounded products can vary, it is safer to use regulated pharmaceutical products.
